Training
|
At Foxtail Farm and Riding
Academy, the methods of
Natural Horsemanship and
Classical Equitation are used
to train the horse.
Natural Horsemanship is a
type of training which uses
the natural instincts of a
horse as an advantage in
training.
By speaking in a horse's
"language," communication
is clear and precise, and
results in accepting and
willing horses. Problem
horses often benefit from
work in Natural
Horsemanship, and then go
on to work in the more
formal method of training,
Classical Equitation.
Classical Equitation
(Dressage), long known to be
the foundation for all
disciplines of riding, is then
taught to the horse in order
to properly engage the
hindquarters and create a
forward horse.
Once the horse has solidly
completed basic dressage
work under saddle and is
going softly, it is ready for
more advanced work in
Dressage, jumping, or
eventing; however, the
dressage work is always
progressing. The best
jumpers will tell you: "Good
jumping is Dressage in
between fences..."
As the horse's training
progresses, combinations of
training techniques such as
flexions, longeing, ground
driving, trail riding, and
hauling all are combined to
create a calm, well-mannered
horse who is suitable for
progressing through the
levels of competition.
